ST.BERNARDUS ABT 12 – 2019, 2020, 2021

Belgium

по Djons

I will continue the story of tasting the St.Bernardus Abt 12 Magnum Edition lineup from different years. Let me remind you, they brought it to me from the New Riga brewery (they are also distributors). I deemed it a crime to drink all this splendor in one person and slowly tasted it with friends. Part one with 2013 and 2015 releases here.

I’d certainly leave 2020 and 2021 standing for at least another three or even five years, but I promised to try and tell. 2021 doesn’t mean the beer is brewed in 2021. It was brewed the year before, and poured into magnums in the year indicated. So, you can add another year to the date on the bottle.

St.Bernardus Abt 12 Magnum Edition 2019 (Belgium, Watou) – 10% alk. Aroma and aftertaste has some chocolate, pepper and wood. Compared to earlier releases it feels sweeter body, but in principle, it’s getting dry. Tasted with Pavel Egorov and Mikhail Pihur. Rated “A”.

St.Bernardus Abt 12 Magnum Edition 2020 (Belgium, Watou) – 10% alk. The chocolate is much brighter here for some reason than the 2019. Plus toffee. But the woodiness, the barreliness, is much less. The taste is soft, velvety and 10% alcohol is not felt in any way. A rating.

St.Bernardus Abt 12 Magnum Edition 2021 (Belgium, Watou) – 10% alcohol. This beer was drunk together with the author of the “World of Beer” channel. The “freshest” release I have ever had. The chocolate only comes through when the beer has been breathed. You can’t see it right away. But there are cognac notes and dry pear. Rated “A-“
