Sour ale from Gorky Brewery

Last week, in the store-bar “Hops and Malt” at Petrovsko-Razumovsky pr. 16, there was a presentation of the Gorky brewery. Both “oldies” from regular series, sold in many chains, and new items brewed in a mini brewery in Nizhny Novgorod were presented.

Tasted beers from regular series and found them quite pleasant. Good competition to Volkovskaya brewery, both in terms of taste and quality characteristics and price. I took home the novelties, though. With few exceptions, I don’t like sours, but what can you do – you have to write about more than just what you like.

Oh My Dear Deer (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) – 5.5% alcohol. Sour ale with peach and passion fruit. Brewed in honor of the symbol of Nizhny Novgorod – deer. Aroma is sourish and fruity. At the same time the acidity in the taste is moderate, it balances the sweetness (lactose). Naturally, there is a riot of tropical in the aftertaste, but the peach can be clearly identified. Rated B+.

Wide Walls (Russia, Nizhny Novgorod) – 6/20 This sour is brewed in honor of the street art that Nizhny Novgorod seems to be famous for (?). If everything is more or less clear with the previous beer, here in the glass is a thick non-carbonated liquid like nectar of tropical fruits (guava and apricot). So thick, in fact, that it even has little bits that squeak on your teeth.

How to evaluate this in terms of beer, I do not understand at all. Gave my eldest a taste, said – well juice, well a little bitter only. As in the case of “tomato”, I can not assess this product. Tasty of course, tropical and everything, but what does the beer have to do…? I will leave it without evaluation.

Get Lost (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) – 6.5% alcohol. This sour ale will appeal to those who need to make their eyes narrow and their mouths water. Berries, primarily raspberries, make a good statement in flavor and aftertaste. Unlike Oh My Dear Deer, quite dry. A good option for fans of acidity. It certainly won’t show up in chains, but stores like Hops and Malts or Beru Weekend should have it. Rated B+.
