Two inexpensive Germans from Red and White are Ratsherren Frankfurter Pilsener and Hefeweizen. The Ratsherren brand belongs to the notorious Feldschlößchen brewery. Feldschlößchen is sold both under the brand name and Otto Von Schrödder. However, I haven’t seen it for a long time, maybe they don’t carry it anymore.
Ratsherren Frankfurter Pilsener (Germany, Dresden) – 5.2/11.8 Aroma is weak, malty. The taste is clean, but empty. However, you can’t call it very watery either. In the aftertaste light hop with flowers and grass. Not very expressive, but quite beerable pils. Rated “C+”.
Ratsherren Hefeweizen (Germany, Dresden) – 5.4/12.4 But weitzen was quite disappointing. Banana is more of a jerky theme. The aroma is sweet, but the taste is sour and empty, watery. In the aftertaste also dried banana. The rating is “C-.”
What’s interesting, there is also a Hopfendorf Weizen beer, all from the same Feldschlößchen. And I found it much nicer. At 5/11.3, it seemed to be a more nuanced, harmonious beer. The banana was just right. There were bread tones in the flavor. I would give it a B-.
